COTENTIN DENTAL

implantation

The word “dental implant” can seem daunting at first. But there is little reason for that. Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth and are 8-14mm long artificial tooth roots.

The task of a dental implant is to replace a natural tooth with its tasks and to provide a firm hold. The advantage of dental implants is that healthy teeth next to a gap no longer have a crown, ie no longer have to be ground down.

In our practice we offer a variety of options and implants to find the right dentures for you individually.

Material of an implant

Dental implants are mostly made of titanium. Titanium brings many benefits. Titanium is considered to be very well tolerated, which usually does not trigger a rejection reaction. The material also impresses with its long durability.

In order to generate a perfect connection with the bone substance, the material of the implant is roughened before it is inserted. By roughening, the dental implant grows better with the jawbone. After inserting the implant, a healing phase of 2-4 months must be expected. After healing, the dental implant can be fitted with a crown.

In our practice we only use implants from the Swiss manufacturer Straumann®. These are the most innovative on the dental market and have many advantages compared to other manufacturers. The healing time is shorter than with other implant systems, for example due to a specially prepared surface.

We would be happy to provide you with individual information on the more precise process of inserting a dental implant.

Professional dentures

Implants are used to anchor crowns, bridges or dentures. Holding elements in the gums are created and the natural chewing function is restored. Another advantage of dental implants is the natural wearing comfort. In addition, the bones are preserved in the long term. Dental implants can help you achieve a long-lasting, radiant smile.

Advantages of implant-supported dentures

Implant-supported dentures have many advantages. In this way, the bone is preserved in the long term when the artificial tooth root is anchored in the jawbone through the physiological stimulus of the chewing force. This type of denture is also the most stable fixed denture.

Another advantage of an implant-supported denture is that both the shape and the color are adapted to the adjacent real teeth. Thus, no difference between real and fake teeth is recognizable and the appearance is not impaired. An important additional advantage is that no healthy teeth are attacked or abraded during the treatment. The integrity of existing healthy teeth is guaranteed.

The dental technician is an important partner when it comes to perfect dentures. We work with dental laboratories in Normandy, Germany and Switzerland. This ensures that not only only biocompatible materials are used, but also that aesthetic-artistic works are created that fully meet your personal needs and expectations.

Dental implant costs

Due to greater effort and a high demand for precision, relatively higher costs arise than, for example, with a removable denture. The cost of dental implants varies from patient to patient. Depending on the complexity and scope of the treatment, there are different costs.

We will be happy to advise you on your individual treatment and thus determine the exact costs.

Depending on the health insurance company and insurance contract, the costs for the implant crowns are partially covered. Supplementary dental insurance can reduce costs. Find out more about this from your health insurance company.

durability of a dental implant

The durability of a dental implant depends on the care. However, dental implants are considered to be extremely solid and durable compared to other types of dentures if they are properly cared for by the patient themselves and the doctor treating them. We assume a shelf life of 20+ years - provided that you maintain good oral hygiene, have regular check-ups and professional teeth cleaning. Since smokers have a higher risk of implant loss, smoking cessation should be considered before implantation.

Frequently asked questions about dental implants

After inserting the implant, the treated area should not be fully loaded. After a healing time of 2-4 months, the temporary denture can be slightly loaded. In special cases we also offer immediate implants (tooth removal and simultaneous implantation). This shortens the treatment time significantly. Immediate loading is even possible in some cases (a temporary, unloaded crown can be made 1-2 days after implantation).

Due to advanced techniques and modern diagnostics (3D X-ray), there are almost no risks for our patients. In the event that side effects occur, we are always at your disposal and ensure your well-being. Temporary side effects such as pain, swelling, bleeding and wound healing disorders can be treated well.

Good care is required to ensure that a dental implant is preserved in the long term. Proper oral hygiene for implant patients, regular check-ups and professional tooth cleaning are the basis for good care of the implants.

Dental implants are placed using local anesthesia. After the anesthetic has worn off, the wound must be cooled. Drinking is possible again a short time after the insertion of the dental implant. However, eating should not be eaten shortly after the procedure. In the first phase of healing, soft food should be used (max. 3 days) in order not to counteract the healing of the wound. Physical exertion should also be avoided in the first few days after the implantation.
