Implants and dentures

Implants and dentures - discover our wide range of treatments in the field of implantology.

Damaged teeth, missing teeth and gaps between teeth look unattractive and often prevent a confident appearance. With our wide range of treatments, we take care of this and conjure up the brightest smile on your face. Whether crowns, bridges, partial dentures, dentures or implants - we offer you a wide range of treatments in our practice to restore every single tooth to its full splendour. Depending on the size and extent of the area to be treated, we will advise you individually on the right solution.

The loss of tooth substance can be treated with a crown or bridge. If chewing function is already limited due to the absence of several teeth, this can be restored with the help of a denture, partial denture or implants. We will help you to find the right dentures and provide you with the most important information about dentures and implantology.

COTENTIN DENTAL

Implantation

The word "dental implant" can seem daunting at first. But there is little reason for this. Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth and are 8-14 mm long artificial tooth roots.

The purpose of a dental implant is to replace a natural tooth and provide a firm hold. The advantage of dental implants is that healthy teeth next to a gap no longer need to be crowned, i.e. no longer need to be ground down.

In our practice, we offer a wide range of options and implants to find the right dentures for you.

Material of an implant

Most dental implants are made of titanium. Titanium has many advantages. For example, titanium is considered to be very well tolerated, which means that no rejection reaction is usually triggered. The material also impresses with its long durability.

In order to generate a perfect connection with the bone substance, the material of the implant is roughened before insertion. By roughening the material, the dental implant fuses better with the jawbone. After the implant has been inserted, a healing phase of 2-4 months must be expected. After healing, the dental implant can be fitted with a crown.

We only use implants from the Swiss manufacturer Straumann in our practice®. These are the most innovative on the dental market and have many advantages over other manufacturers. For example, the healing time is shorter than with other implant systems thanks to a specially prepared surface.

We will be happy to inform you individually about the exact process of inserting a dental implant.

Professional dentures

The anchoring of crowns, bridges or dentures is ensured by implants. Retaining elements are created in the gums and the natural chewing function is restored. Another advantage of dental implants is that they feel natural to wear. The bones are also preserved in the long term. Dental implants therefore help you to achieve a long-lasting and radiant smile.

Advantages of implant-supported dentures

Implant-supported dentures have many advantages. For example, the bone is preserved in the long term when the artificial tooth root is anchored in the jawbone due to the physiological stimulus of the chewing force. In addition, this type of denture is the most stable fixed denture.

Another advantage of implant-supported dentures is that both the shape and the colour are matched to adjacent real teeth. This means that there is no recognisable difference between real and false teeth and the appearance is not affected. An important additional advantage is that no healthy teeth are damaged or ground down during the treatment. The integrity of existing healthy teeth is guaranteed.

The dental technician is an important partner for perfect dentures. We work with dental laboratories in Normandy, Germany and Switzerland. This ensures that not only are only biocompatible materials used, but also that aesthetic and artistic works are created that fully satisfy your personal needs and expectations.

Costs of a dental implantation

Due to greater effort and a high demand for precision, the costs are relatively higher than for removable dentures, for example. The cost of dental implants varies from patient to patient. Costs vary depending on the complexity and scope of the treatment.

We will be happy to advise you on your individual treatment and determine the exact costs.

Depending on the health insurance company and insurance contract, the costs for implant crowns may be partially covered. Costs can be reduced by taking out supplementary dental insurance. Ask your health insurance provider for more information.

Durability of a dental implant

The durability of a dental implant depends on the care it receives. However, dental implants are considered to be extremely solid and durable compared to other types of dental prostheses if they are well cared for by the patient and the dentist. We assume a durability of 20+ years - provided that you maintain good oral hygiene and have regular check-ups and professional teeth cleaning. As smokers have a higher risk of implant loss, it is advisable to stop smoking before implantation.

Frequently asked questions about dental implants

After insertion of the implant, the treated area should not be fully loaded. After a healing period of 2-4 months, the temporary denture can be lightly loaded. In special cases, we also offer immediate implants (tooth removal and simultaneous implant placement). This significantly shortens the treatment time. In some cases, immediate loading is even possible (a temporary, non-loaded crown can be made 1-2 days after implantation).

Thanks to advanced techniques and modern diagnostics (3D X-ray), there are virtually no risks for our patients. In the event that side effects occur, we are available to you at all times to ensure your well-being. Temporary side effects such as pain, swelling, post-operative bleeding and wound healing disorders can be easily treated.

Good care is required to ensure the long-term preservation of a dental implant. Proper oral hygiene of implant patients, regular check-ups and professional tooth cleaning are the basis for good implant care.

Dental implants are inserted under local anaesthetic. Once the anaesthetic has worn off, the wound must be cooled. Drinking is possible again shortly after the dental implant has been inserted. However, food should not be eaten shortly after the procedure. During the initial healing phase, soft foods should be eaten (max. 3 days) in order not to counteract wound healing. Physical exertion should also be avoided in the first few days after implantation.
